Consular processing of a nonimmigrant visa is the procedure by which you apply for a nonimmigrant visa at the United States embassy or consulate in your home country.

The nonimmigrant visa number is the one that is in red at the bottom of the visa. It is not the control number. If you have a U.S. employer, they can apply for your GC even while you are in USA.
